The man accused of killing a Minnesota lawmaker and seriously injuring another allegedly claimed in a letter to the FBI that Governor Tim Walz ordered the attacks — and even instructed him to assassinate U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar.
According to reports, 57-year-old Vance Boelter now faces several state and federal murder charges after what law enforcement is calling a “targeted political” assault. The deadly rampage resulted in the deaths of former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark. Democratic State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were also shot and remain in recovery.
Authorities discovered a letter in a Buick left near Boelter’s home, in which he allegedly confessed to the shootings. Citing unnamed sources, the Star Tribune reported that the document outlines Boelter’s claim that the killings were part of a political scheme aimed at elevating Governor Walz’s career. Boelter wrote that his orders included eliminating Senator Klobuchar to make way for Walz to seek a Senate seat. The letter was reportedly close to two pages long and included confessions to the shootings of Hoffman, Hortman, and both their spouses.
Investigators say Boelter posed as a police officer to carry out the attacks. In the early morning of June 14, he knocked on the Hoffmans’ door in Champlin wearing a badge and a tactical vest. When Senator Hoffman answered, Boelter allegedly opened fire, striking him nine times. Yvette Hoffman was hit eight times. Both were rushed to the hospital; Senator Hoffman remains in critical condition while Yvette has since been released.
Roughly 90 minutes later, Boelter used the same tactic at the home of Melissa Hortman in Brooklyn Park, just 8 miles away. Both she and her husband were pronounced dead at the scene.
After the initial shooting at the Hoffmans’ home, authorities, fearing a broader threat, went to check on Hortman’s residence. When they arrived around 3:35 a.m., they encountered Boelter, who was leaving the house in tactical gear. According to police, he “immediately” opened fire on officers and fled the scene.
Boelter was captured two days later, on Sunday night, after what Brooklyn Park Police Chief Mark Bruley described as “the largest manhunt in state history.”
Investigators are still determining the full motive behind the attacks. A fake police vehicle believed to have been used by Boelter contained a “manifesto,” which Chief Bruley said included a hit list of dozens of names. According to CNN, the list was mostly composed of Democratic lawmakers and abortion rights supporters.
COMMENTARY:
As a person watching this horrifying political assassination news unfold in Minnesota, one major question keeps ringing louder than the rest: Why won’t they release the manifesto? If this truly was a lone, delusional man acting on his own, why not let the public see his thoughts, his motivations, and the supposed reasoning behind his actions?
We’ve heard from police that this manifesto includes a hit list targeting mostly Democrats and abortion advocates. But if that’s the case — and it only helps their narrative — then what’s the holdup? You would think they’d be first in line to publish every word, splashed across the media 24/7. But instead, silence. Redactions. Stonewalling. We’re being told what to think by filtered leaks to the media, not shown the actual facts.
Here’s the uncomfortable truth they don’t want to admit: the content of that manifesto must contradict or implicate something the Democrats in power don’t want exposed. Boelter claimed in his letter to the FBI that Governor Tim Walz ordered a hit on Senator Amy Klobuchar to clear a path for his Senate ambitions. That’s not something the media or DFL establishment wants the average citizen thinking about — especially not in an election year.
The mainstream press is barely touching this story. If the party roles were reversed — if a man claimed a Republican governor ordered assassinations and had a Democrat hit list — you better believe every word of that manifesto would be published by now. There would be breaking news specials, investigative panels, congressional hearings. But because it points a finger at Governor Walz and raises serious questions about political corruption within the Democratic machine, the public is kept in the dark.
Let’s be clear: nobody is above the law, and if there’s even a sliver of truth to Boelter’s claims, it deserves a full and open investigation. Refusing to release the manifesto only deepens suspicion. Transparency should never be optional, especially when elected officials’ names are allegedly involved in murder plots.
So the question remains: What are Democrats in Minnesota trying to hide? If there’s nothing damning in that manifesto, prove it. Release it. Let the people read the words for themselves — unfiltered, unedited, and unspun. Until then, the silence says more than any press conference ever could.
