Concerns about national security at the U.S.-Mexico border have risen recently due to an increase in the number of Iranians and other “Special Interest Migrants” crossing into the United States. The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has reported several apprehensions in Maverick County, including a group of three Iranian and Guinean illegals on October 20, 2024. This followed another encounter with seven illegals from Iran and Angola just days earlier. These migrants are classified as potentially posing a threat to U.S. security, especially given Iran’s designation as a state sponsor of terrorism.
The discovery of Iranian nationals attempting to enter the U.S. has prompted alarm because of longstanding tensions between the U.S. and Iran. Since the 1980s, diplomatic relations between the two countries have been severed, and Iran is viewed as a significant sponsor of terrorism. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has noted an increasing number of individuals with potential ties to terrorism attempting to cross the southern border in its latest Homeland Threat Assessment report.
The report highlights that as of mid-2024, about 160 individuals listed in the Terrorist Screening Database had attempted to cross the border into the United States. This uptick in potentially dangerous border crossings has amplified calls for heightened security measures along the southern border, especially in regions like Texas, where these apprehensions are concentrated.
Texas has responded with additional security initiatives, including “Operation Lone Star,” which involves deploying state troopers and the National Guard to patrol and reinforce the border. Recent efforts have included the installation of concertina and razor wire barriers along the Rio Grande, aiming to deter large groups of illegals from crossing into Texas. Despite these efforts, large groups of illegals, sometimes exceeding 100 people, continue to attempt illegal crossings.
Authorities have reported some success in repelling these attempts. For example, Texas National Guard soldiers recently stopped a group of 45 illegals attempting to cross the Rio Grande, resulting in their apprehension by Mexican immigration officials. However, with concerns over national security growing, many question whether enough is being done to secure the U.S.-Mexico border from potential threats.
COMMENTARY:
It’s absolutely outrageous that our border is being flooded with illegals from countries like Iran, a nation known for sponsoring terrorism, and our leadership is sitting idly by, doing nothing. Vice President Kamala Harris, who was appointed to take charge of the border situation, has completely failed in her duties. This is not just about immigration anymore—it’s about our national security. When Iranian nationals, some from a country hostile to the U.S., are crossing into our territory, we need immediate action, not political posturing.
How much longer do we have to wait before our leadership takes this seriously? Every day that this administration drags its feet, our country becomes more vulnerable. They want to talk about “compassion” for illegals, but where is the compassion for American citizens who expect their government to protect them? It’s clear that the southern border is not secure, and Harris, despite her promises, has done absolutely nothing to fix it.
The fact that Texas has had to take matters into its own hands with operations like “Lone Star” is a testament to this administration’s incompetence. Governor Abbott and Texas law enforcement are left to deal with what should be a federal responsibility. Why hasn’t Harris addressed this crisis? She was quick to take the title of “border czar,” but now that the pressure is on, she’s nowhere to be found.
We’ve heard enough excuses. Every single day we see more and more threats coming across that border, while the Biden administration, led by VP Harris on this issue, continues to fumble. The American people deserve leaders who are committed to protecting this country, not ones who willfully ignore threats to our safety. It’s time for Harris to either do the job she was given or step aside and let someone with the guts to act take over.
This needs to stop now. Our national security cannot be compromised because of political games and indecision. Vice President Harris, do your job. Enough is enough!
