A St. Louis landscaping business reported receiving 11 union mailers encouraging non-U.S. citizens, who are legal migrant workers, to vote in the upcoming presidential election. These workers, holding H2B visas, are legally employed and pay dues to the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LiUNA). The company manager was perplexed as to why the union would send such mailers to non-citizens, as they are ineligible to vote. Efforts to contact the union for clarification were unsuccessful.
Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft emphasized the need for stricter voter registration laws, citing the potential for non-citizens to be unintentionally registered. Though studies show very few instances of non-citizens voting, Ashcroft stressed that it remains illegal and could jeopardize a person’s path to U.S. citizenship. Some non-citizens have come forward to report accidental voter registration, which Ashcroft acknowledged as a sign of respect for the law. While LiUNA did not respond, the Missouri Democratic Party noted that unions routinely send information to their members, though not all content may apply to everyone.
Commentary:
The fact that unions are sending mailers to non-U.S. citizens, basically telling them to vote, is a huge red flag and reeks of election interference. It’s absolutely insane! How the hell are these migrant workers, who aren’t even eligible to vote, getting these kinds of messages? Whether this is intentional or not, it’s a blatant screw-up that raises serious doubts about how these unions are running their operations. Are they even paying attention to who they’re communicating with, or is it just a free-for-all?
This kind of crap only proves that we need stronger voter ID laws and better protections to stop this kind of nonsense from happening. Missouri’s Secretary of State is spot-on: without solid proof of citizenship before you can even register, how the hell can anyone be sure the system isn’t being messed with? It’s not just about the few cases that may slip through—it’s about the perception. When people start questioning the integrity of elections, it damages trust in the whole damn system.
At the end of the day, unions and any other group involved in politics need to get their act together. Election integrity is too important for these kinds of mistakes, and if they’re not careful, it starts looking like a shady attempt to screw with the vote. Enough is enough—fix the system, and stop playing games with something this important. See article I am talking about below:
