SOROS BANKROLLS PUSH TO TRIGGER GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN

A left-wing activist group with deep financial ties to George Soros’ network is spearheading a drive to pressure Senate Democrats into rejecting government funding agreements — even if it sparks a partial shutdown.

The group, Indivisible, which previously organized the “No Kings” protests and other anti-Trump demonstrations, is urging Democrats to reject any bipartisan compromise with Republicans and President Donald Trump as the September 30 deadline looms.

On its website, Indivisible is hosting a tool that allows activists to contact Democratic senators, complete with a prepared script telling them to block Trump from getting what the group calls a “blank check.”

“Federal government funding runs out on September 30 — and Republicans need Democratic votes to clear the filibuster and avoid a government shutdown,” the script states.

“Democrats have a strong hand to play.

They must use it to deny Donald Trump the blank check Republicans want to hand him!”

Financial disclosures show that Indivisible’s political arm has received more than $7.6 million from Soros’ Open Society Foundations (OSF) over the past eight years. OSF, founded by George Soros and now led by his son Alexander, remains one of the most powerful progressive funding networks in the world.

This latest campaign coincides with Democratic leadership resisting Republican-backed continuing resolutions (CRs), which are meant to rein in spending. Instead, Senate Democrats under Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) have been demanding spending packages filled with progressive priorities.

Indivisible has criticized Schumer in the past for working with Republicans to avoid a shutdown, accusing him of enabling Trump to “weaponize federal funds to rob our services, militarize our cities, and terrorize our communities.” The group even staged an event where activists sent “retirement cards” urging Schumer to step down as Democratic leader.

Adding to that pressure, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) openly rebuked Schumer, fueling speculation she could challenge him in a future primary. A poll released around that time suggested Ocasio-Cortez was nearly 20 points ahead of Schumer in a hypothetical 2028 matchup.

Meanwhile, the House passed a Republican-supported “clean” CR on September 19 to extend funding through November 21. Only one Democrat voted for it. The measure later failed in the Senate after Democrats blocked it. Schumer’s counterproposal, which attempted to scrap over $1 trillion in savings from Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBA) and allow taxpayer-funded health care for illegal immigrants, also collapsed along party lines.

The White House sharply criticized the Soros-backed pressure campaign, warning Democrats not to give in to activists.

“Senate Democrats must reject the Soros-funded pressure from the radical left and pass the clean CR,” a White House official said.

“More than one trillion dollars in new spending, taxpayer-funded health care for illegal aliens, half a billion dollars for left-wing media, and the elimination of the rural health care fund are all nonstarters – completely out of touch with what the American people want and deserve from their government.”

The official added that if Democrats push the country into a shutdown, they will “own it,” pointing out that such a move could disrupt law enforcement, cut off WIC benefits for women and children, and endanger senior health care.

President Trump is scheduled to meet with Schumer, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, House Speaker Mike Johnson, and Senate Majority Leader John Thune on Monday — just a day before the deadline hits.

COMMENTARY:

George Soros stands out among liberal donors as a man with almost unlimited resources to influence politics, both in the U.S. and abroad. When groups like Indivisible push Democrat senators to block bipartisan agreements and even risk a government shutdown, it stinks of political manipulation rather than grassroots disruption. The fact that Indivisible’s political wing has received over $8 million from Soros’s foundations is documented. (influencewatch.org) This is not a small donor — this is deep-pocket coordination.

When protests appear at multiple sites across the country with uniform messaging, reimbursement offers, and pre-scripted phone campaigns, it’s fair to suspect these are “professional protesters.” Media has reported that Indivisible told local activists “we will reimburse your protest expenses.” (freebeacon.com) That suggests these rallies are organized as paid campaigns, not spontaneous citizen outrage.

One can argue that Soros isn’t just funding causes — he’s orchestrating them. When a billionaire uses his foundation to funnel money into aligned organizations across many issue areas (immigration, protest movements, radical local politics), that resembles control, not philanthropy. That’s not just supporting ideas — it’s building a political machine. This is an opinion, but it seems hard to deny the pattern.

Foundations like Open Society spend heavily on “civil rights, social justice, and democratic participation” inside the U.S. (en.wikipedia.org) But when a donor supports groups that pressure elected officials to obstruct funding, overturn laws, or push agendas outside of elected channels, that is interference, not charity. The difference is whether one is influencing public policy through persuasion or through hidden leverage and “dark money.”

Critics often accuse Soros of crooked schemes, some bordering on conspiracy. Because his networks are vast, opaque, and cross national borders, he becomes an easy figure for suspicion. Scholars have noted that Soros has become a “common bogeyman” — a symbol for covert liberal orchestration. (euronews.com) While not all accusations against him are valid, the cloak-and-dagger profile is self-reinforcing.

It’s notable that the U.S. Department of Justice has begun directing prosecutors to prepare investigations into the Open Society Foundations for possible charges like money laundering, racketeering, and even “material support for terrorism.” (abcnews.go.com) Whether or not those probes are justified, their very presence suggests authorities believe there’s enough smoke to request fire. A man who funds political protest movements should be open to scrutiny — especially when those movements are deliberately designed to block government functioning.

This isn’t just a U.S. phenomenon. Soros-backed institutions have funded NGOs and “pro-democracy” movements in Eastern Europe, Africa, Latin America, and elsewhere. Critics argue that in some countries, his funding has been tied to social unrest and pressures on sovereign institutions. (st.network) If he’s willing to meddle in other nations’ politics, are we to believe his U.S. donations are benign?

Soros often frames his activities as defending democracy, transparency, and human rights. But using massive financial influence to pressure officials behind the scenes is the opposite of transparency — it is opaque manipulation. This dual persona — the international philanthropist and the clandestine political warrior — allows him to bask in praise and yet remain untouchable. That hypocrisy is deeply corrupting.

When a wealthy elite uses money to push protest movements, it undermines genuine local activism. Ordinary Americans who might want to speak out are drowned out by agitators with funding, logistics, and scripts. Furthermore, when protests lead to shutdowns, fiscal chaos, or policy gridlock, everyone suffers — citizens lose benefits, services get cut, and confidence in government erodes. Soros’s funding doesn’t just empower causes — it weaponizes dysfunction.

We need to insist that any organization influencing U.S. policy be transparent about donors and expenditures. If Soros wants to fund activism, that’s his right — but not from the shadows. Those millions must be tracked, regulated, and exposed. The American people deserve to see who is bankrolling the protests that threaten government operations. If you’re pushing to shut down the government — you should have to publicly own it, not hide behind layers of nonprofits and elite influence.
